How does the food safety culture average report work?

How does the food safety culture average report work?

The average report provides a detailed numerical analysis of food safety culture questionnaire results. Unlike the Maturity Report, which focuses on visual charts and response distributions, the Average Report allows you to compare questionnaire scores question-by-question and identify exactly where improvements or declines have occurred.

This report is particularly useful when you need to:

·        Measure improvements between questionnaire campaigns.

·        Identify strengths and weaknesses within your organisation.

·        Compare food safety culture performance over time.

·        Analyse results by section, site, or role.

·        Support management reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.

·        Provide evidence during audits and food safety culture assessments.

The report converts questionnaire responses into average scores, making it easier to track measurable changes in food safety culture.

Accessing the Average Report

The average report becomes available once a questionnaire has been completed and closed.

To access the report:

1. Navigate to the Food Safety Culture area.

2. Locate the questionnaire you want to review.

3. Click Average Report.

The report will display detailed scoring information for every question included in the questionnaire.

Understanding the Filters

The average report includes several filters that allow you to focus on specific groups of responses.

Applying filters before reviewing or exporting data helps ensure you are analysing the most relevant information.

Average Score Filter

This filter is unique to the Average Report and helps identify areas that may require attention.

Available options include:

Average Scores Under 4

Selecting this option displays only questions with an average score below 4.

These questions may indicate areas where employee confidence, understanding, communication, or engagement could be improved.

This filter is particularly useful when identifying:

·        Potential cultural weaknesses.

·        Areas requiring additional training.

·        Topics needing management attention.

·        Opportunities for improvement initiatives.

Average Scores 4 and Over

Selecting this option displays only questions with an average score of 4 or higher.

These questions typically represent areas performing well and demonstrate positive employee perceptions.

This filter can help identify:

·        Organisational strengths.

·        Successful improvement initiatives.

·        Areas of strong food safety culture maturity.

·        Best practices that may be replicated elsewhere.

Section Filter

Food safety culture questionnaires are divided into four key sections:

·        Control

·        Co-operation

·        Communication

·        Competence

Using the Section filter allows you to analyse results from a specific area rather than viewing the entire questionnaire.

For example:

·        Select Communication to review questions relating to communication processes.

·        Select Competence to review employee training and knowledge-related questions.

·        Select Control to review procedures and operational controls.

·        Select 'Co-operation'  to review teamwork and collaboration.

This makes it easier to focus improvement efforts on specific aspects of food safety culture.

Site Filter

Responses are recorded against the site assigned to each user.

The Site filter allows you to analyse results for a particular location.

This can help you:

·        Compare culture maturity between sites.

·        Identify sites requiring additional support.

·        Review improvement trends at specific locations.

·        Monitor site-level performance.

Role Filter

Roles are assigned when user accounts are created.

Examples may include:

·        Operative

·        Supervisor

·        Manager

·        Team Leader

·        Quality Team

Using the Role filter allows you to compare questionnaire results based on job function.

This can help identify differences between operational teams and management teams and determine where additional support may be required.

Comparing Questionnaires

One of the most valuable features of the Average Report is the ability to compare questionnaire results over time.

The Compare option allows you to select a previous questionnaire and compare it against the current questionnaire.

To compare questionnaires:

1. Open the Average Report.

2. Select a questionnaire from the Compare dropdown.

3. Click Compare.

The report will then display:

·        The average score for the selected questionnaire.

·        The average score for the comparison questionnaire.

·        Variance information showing whether changes are statistically significant.

This allows organisations to measure whether food safety culture initiatives are producing measurable improvements.

Understanding the Results Table

The main report displays a detailed table containing questionnaire scoring information.

Each row represents a single questionnaire question.

The table contains several columns:

Question

This column displays the questionnaire question being analysed.

Each question is assessed separately, allowing detailed review of individual topics rather than only reviewing overall scores.

Average Score (Questionnaire A)

This column displays the average score achieved for the selected questionnaire.

Scores are calculated using all responses submitted for that questionnaire.

Higher scores generally indicate stronger positive perceptions.

Average Score (Questionnaire B)

When a comparison questionnaire is selected, this column displays the average score from the second questionnaire.

This allows direct comparison between questionnaire periods.

Significant Variance

This column indicates whether the difference between the two questionnaire scores is statistically significant.

Possible values include:

·        Yes

·        No

A result of 'Yes' means the difference is large enough to be considered meaningful and unlikely to have occurred by chance.

A result of 'no' means the difference is not statistically significant.

This helps organisations focus on genuine trends rather than small fluctuations in responses.

Understanding the Total Average

At the bottom of the report you will see a total average score.

This score represents the overall average for the questionnaire.

For example:

Questionnaire

Total Average

Questionnaire #6

3.40

Questionnaire #9

3.73

In this example, Questionnaire #9 achieved a higher overall score, indicating an improvement in food safety culture compared with Questionnaire #6.

This overall score is often used as a key indicator when reviewing organisational performance over time.

Identifying Areas for Improvement

The average report is particularly useful for identifying specific areas that require attention.

For example:

·        Questions scoring below 4 may indicate areas requiring improvement.

·        Questions with significant variance may highlight successful improvement initiatives.

·        Questions showing declining scores may identify emerging risks.

·        Site or role filtering can help identify specific groups requiring additional support.

Rather than reviewing overall results alone, organisations can use the report to pinpoint the exact topics that require action.

Exporting the Report

The Average Report can be exported in both PDF and CSV formats.

Available export options include:

·        Download PDF

·        Download CSV

Exporting allows organisations to:

·        Share results with management teams.

·        Include findings in meetings and presentations.

·        Retain historical records.

·        Support audit preparation.

·        Analyse data outside the platform if required.

Important

If filters are applied before exporting, only the filtered data will be included in the export.

For example:

·        A Site filter will export only that site's data.

·        A Role filter will export only that role's data.

·        An Average Score filter will export only the matching questions.

·        A Section filter will export only the selected section.

When Should I Use the Average Report?

The Average Report is most useful when you need to:

·        Compare questionnaire results over time.

·        Measure improvement initiatives.

·        Identify low-scoring areas.

·        Monitor organisational trends.

·        Review performance by site or role.

·        Support management reviews.

·        Demonstrate continuous improvement.

Because the report analyses every question individually, it provides one of the most detailed views of food safety culture performance available within the platform.

Platform Variations

The Average Report is available across academies that include the Food Safety Culture module.

While the layout may vary between platforms, the functionality remains consistent.

Across supported platforms, users can:

·        View question-by-question average scores.

·        Compare questionnaire results.

·        Filter results by section, site, and role.

·        Identify significant variances.

·        Export reports in available formats.

Some academies may display the report differently; however, the purpose and interpretation of the average report remain the same across all platforms.
